Internship Program

The internship program at the Bowman Museum offers the opportunity to learn about the operations of a non-profit museum while working alongside experienced professionals. The Bowman Museum has an opening in the Collections Care Department for an unpaid internship. This internship is an excellent opportunity for an individual interested in learning more about museum collections care and management.

The primary responsibilities of the collections intern are:

  • Assisting with the digitization into PastPerfect Museum Software, photography, and organization of objects from the permanent collection
  • Basic Preservation
  • Research

Interested candidates must be of undergraduate or graduate studies in: American Studies, History, Public History, Museum Studies, or other like field. Solid research, computer, and analytical skills are preferred. The ideal candidate will be able to work approximately 20 hours per week, Tuesday - Friday, for nine weeks. The internship is unpaid, but course credit may be earned by arrangement with the intern's academic institution. All interns will receive a final evaluation by their internship supervisor on a form provided by the museum. Upon successful completion of program, each intern will receive a letter of accomplishment.

To be considered for the internship, all candidates must complete the "Bowman Museum Intern Application" and return it to the Crook County Treasurer/ Human Resources Office.

Selected candidates must complete internship application, successfully pass a criminal background check and reference checks, provide two references or letters of recommendation, and appear in a face-to-face interview at the Bowman Museum. The following must be presented at interview: Forms and policies from academic institution, contact information for faculty advisor/professor, and specific hour/task guidelines that meet academic program procedures.
