DESCRIPTION:New Exhibit\nThe Bowman Museum is pleased to announce a compelling new exhibit\, “A Man Named York\,” on display in the Belknap Exhibit Center from April 1 through May 31.\nPresented by the Oregon Black Pioneers\, this traveling exhibit explores the life and legacy of York—an enslaved African American man who played a vital role in the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Despite his significant contributions to one of the most important expeditions in American history\, York’s story has often been overlooked. \n“A Man Named York” sheds light on York’s experiences\, his skills and responsibilities during the expedition\, and the complex realities of his life before and after the journey. Through engaging panels and historical interpretation\, visitors will gain a deeper understanding of York’s role and the broader history of African Americans in early Oregon and the American West. \nThis exhibit offers a meaningful opportunity for the community to reflect on the history and recognize the individuals who helped shape the region. \nThe exhibit is included with regular museum admission and is open to the public during regular hours. DESCRIPTION:The Belknap Exhibit Center at the Bowman Museum is proud to present Soul of the Land\, a special quilt and textile art exhibit by renowned Oregon artist June Jaeger. This inspiring exhibition celebrates the deep connection between art\, nature\, and the landscapes of Central Oregon. \nA fifth-generation Oregonian\, June Jaeger was born in Prineville and raised in Redmond\, where the region’s wide-open spaces\, wildlife\, and natural beauty shaped her artistic voice. Influenced by a lifelong relationship with horses and the outdoors\, Jaeger works as a pattern designer\, painter\, quilter\, and author. She creates her work primarily by hand\, continuing to draw and design without the use of computers\, valuing the authenticity and personal connection of traditional techniques. \nJaeger’s work has been featured in regional\, national\, and international exhibitions and has earned numerous awards.
