DESCRIPTION:The Belknap Exhibit Center at the Bowman Museum is proud to present Soul of the Land\, a special quilt and textile art exhibit by renowned Oregon artist June Jaeger. This inspiring exhibition celebrates the deep connection between art\, nature\, and the landscapes of Central Oregon. \nA fifth-generation Oregonian\, June Jaeger was born in Prineville and raised in Redmond\, where the region’s wide-open spaces\, wildlife\, and natural beauty shaped her artistic voice. Influenced by a lifelong relationship with horses and the outdoors\, Jaeger works as a pattern designer\, painter\, quilter\, and author. She creates her work primarily by hand\, continuing to draw and design without the use of computers\, valuing the authenticity and personal connection of traditional techniques. \nJaeger’s work has been featured in regional\, national\, and international exhibitions and has earned numerous awards. Despite his significant contributions to one of the most important expeditions in American history\, York’s story has often been overlooked. \n“A Man Named York” sheds light on York’s experiences\, his skills and responsibilities during the expedition\, and the complex realities of his life before and after the journey. Through engaging panels and historical interpretation\, visitors will gain a deeper understanding of York’s role and the broader history of African Americans in early Oregon and the American West. \nThis exhibit offers a meaningful opportunity for the community to reflect on the history and recognize the individuals who helped shape the region. \nThe exhibit is included with regular museum admission and is open to the public during regular hours. DESCRIPTION:Join the Bowman Museum as we celebrate Crook County history and America’s 250th Anniversary with our special Community Caboose Display! \nBeginning June 1 (while supplies last)\, pick up a wooden caboose at the museum and decorate it to reflect Crook County history\, local landmarks\, family stories\, or patriotic pride. Use paint\, photographs\, fabric\, markers\, or any creative materials to make your caboose unique. \nReturn your completed caboose to the museum by August 31 to be included in our community display opening in September. Participants of all ages are encouraged to join the fun and help celebrate our shared history and community spirit! \nHow to Participate \n\nPick up a wooden caboose at the Bowman Museum beginning June 1\nDecorate your caboose with a historical or patriotic theme\nReturn your completed caboose by August 31\nVisit the museum in September to view the community display\n\nCommunity Caboose Display FAQ \nWho can participate?\nEveryone is welcome! Individuals\, families\, classrooms\, businesses\, and community groups are encouraged to participate. \nIs there a cost to participate?\nNo. Participation is free. \nAre there decoration rules?\nPlease keep all designs family-friendly and respectful. DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate 81 years of the Crooked River Round Up at the Bowman Museum with Around the Campfire: Open Mic\, an afternoon of Western music and cowboy poetry\, happening Saturday\, June 27\, 2026\, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Bowman Museum. \nWhether you’re a seasoned performer or just want to enjoy the show\, this is a great opportunity to gather with friends and neighbors\, honor our heritage\, and have a little fun around the “campfire.” Hosted by Tom Swearingen\, a three-time Male Poet of the Year with the International Western Music Association (IWMA)\, this free\, family-friendly event invites performers of all ages to share songs\, stories\, and poems inspired by the spirit of the West. \nSign-ups begin on site at 12:30 PM and are first come\, first served. Each performer will have up to five minutes to take the stage\, so dust off your boots\, warm up your voice\, and get ready to entertain! Prizes will be awarded to Judges’ Choice “Top Hands\,” so bring your best. \nPresented in partnership with the International Western Music Association (IWMA) and Juni Art. A special thanks to the Crook County Historical Society and Crooked River Round Up.  This event is supported by a Rural Oregon Community Foundation grant.
