SUMMARY:“A Man Named York” Opens at Bowman Museum
DESCRIPTION:New Exhibit\nThe Bowman Museum is pleased to announce a compelling new exhibit\, “A Man Named York\,” on display in the Belknap Exhibit Center from April 1 through May 31.\nPresented by the Oregon Black Pioneers\, this traveling exhibit explores the life and legacy of York—an enslaved African American man who played a vital role in the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Despite his significant contributions to one of the most important expeditions in American history\, York’s story has often been overlooked. \n“A Man Named York” sheds light on York’s experiences\, his skills and responsibilities during the expedition\, and the complex realities of his life before and after the journey. Visitors of all ages are encouraged to attend.\nFor more information\, please contact the Bowman Museum at (541) 447-3715.
