What It Means to Serve on the Board of Directors
Serving on the Board of Directors for the Bowman Museum is an opportunity to play a meaningful role in preserving and promoting the rich history of Crook County. Our board members are more than just advisors—they are stewards of the past and architects of the future. With an expanding scope that now includes the Crook County History Center, the Belknap Exhibit Center, Caboose Park, and the historic Pioneer Cabin, board leadership is essential to shaping the direction, growth, and long-term success of our organization.
Board members help guide strategic decisions that support not just the museum, but the entire network of historical sites and programs we offer. Whether it’s approving plans for new exhibits, exploring funding opportunities for restoration projects, or envisioning ways to expand educational outreach, members are actively involved in decisions that impact the cultural and historical landscape of the region.
The role includes key responsibilities in governance, oversight, and financial stewardship. Board members ensure the museum and its satellite sites operate transparently and sustainably. They help oversee budgets, review long-term plans, and provide guidance that aligns with our mission to preserve and share local history. Each site—whether it’s the exhibit-rich halls of the Belknap Center or the quiet charm of the Pioneer Cabin—requires thoughtful support and vision to thrive.
Just as importantly, board service is about connection. Members act as ambassadors within the community, helping to raise awareness, build partnerships, and encourage public engagement. With our expanding presence across Crook County, the need for enthusiastic, engaged leadership is greater than ever.
For those who care deeply about local heritage, education, and community, joining the Board of Directors is a chance to make a lasting difference—and to help ensure that the stories of Crook County are preserved and celebrated for generations to come.
