Opportunities to Get Involved

No matter your interests or experience level, we have a place for you at the Bowman Museum. Here are some of the ways volunteers contribute their time and talents:

Collections & Exhibits

Help preserve our local treasures. Volunteers assist with:

  • Organizing and caring for historical artifacts
  • Photographing items for digital records
  • Entering data into our museum software system
  • Assisting with the development and installation of new exhibits
  • Supporting research to enhance collections and displays

Research Library

If you enjoy digging into old records and uncovering fascinating stories, the research library is a great fit. Volunteers in this area help with:

  • Cataloging and indexing historical documents
  • Assisting visitors with family history or genealogy projects
  • Supporting general historical research projects for the museum

Visitor Experience & Public Programs

If you enjoy working with people, this is where you can really shine. Volunteers may:

  • Welcome guests at the front desk or in the gift shop
  • Serve as a tour guide for school groups or museum visitors
  • Help develop or present special programs and events
  • Participate in living history interpretations
  • Support outreach and promotional efforts

Maintenance & Facilities

  • Prefer working with your hands? Volunteers also help behind the scenes by:
  • Assisting with minor carpentry and restoration work
  • Painting and touch-ups around the building
  • Helping care for museum facilities and equipment
