Opportunities to Get Involved
No matter your interests or experience level, we have a place for you at the Bowman Museum. Here are some of the ways volunteers contribute their time and talents:
Collections & Exhibits
Help preserve our local treasures. Volunteers assist with:
- Organizing and caring for historical artifacts
- Photographing items for digital records
- Entering data into our museum software system
- Assisting with the development and installation of new exhibits
- Supporting research to enhance collections and displays
Research Library
If you enjoy digging into old records and uncovering fascinating stories, the research library is a great fit. Volunteers in this area help with:
- Cataloging and indexing historical documents
- Assisting visitors with family history or genealogy projects
- Supporting general historical research projects for the museum
Visitor Experience & Public Programs
If you enjoy working with people, this is where you can really shine. Volunteers may:
- Welcome guests at the front desk or in the gift shop
- Serve as a tour guide for school groups or museum visitors
- Help develop or present special programs and events
- Participate in living history interpretations
- Support outreach and promotional efforts
Maintenance & Facilities
- Prefer working with your hands? Volunteers also help behind the scenes by:
- Assisting with minor carpentry and restoration work
