Oregon: 150 Million Years in the Making

We are excited to announce the opening of a new exhibit, the Oregon: 150 Million Years in the Making geology display at the Belknap Exhibit Center, which will run from September 9th through October 26th, 2024. This immersive exhibit invites visitors to embark on a journey through the rich and diverse geologic history of Oregon, exploring the forces that have shaped its breathtaking landscapes.

Featuring an array of stunning rock specimens, informative displays, and models, the Oregon: 150 Million Years in the Making geology exhibit offers an in-depth look at the state’s unique geology—from the volcanic peaks of the Cascade Range to the ancient river valleys of Eastern Oregon. This exhibit is designed to be engaging for all ages, providing educational content that highlight the ongoing influence of Oregon’s geology on its environment and communities.

“The Oregon: 150 Million Years in the Making geology exhibit is more than just a display of rocks and minerals—it’s a story about the powerful natural forces that have shaped our state and continue to impact our daily lives,” said Sean Briscoe, Executive Director of the Bowman Museum. “We’re thrilled to bring this exhibit to our communities, offering residents and visitors alike the chance to explore the geological wonders that define our region.”

The Bowman Museum invites schools, families, and geology enthusiasts to visit this one-of-a-kind exhibit. The Oregon: 150 Million Years in the Making geology exhibit is sponsored by the Oregon Historical Society.
