Mildred Susannah Green was born on Sept. 6, 1894, in Palestine, Pennsylvania. Her parents were William and Rebecca Green. She came to Oregon with her parents by train in 1910. Her father was a finish carpenter and built houses near Albany, Oregon. Mildred worked in a department store in Albany for five years.
Her parents moved to Central Oregon and homesteaded near Hay Creek. Mildred and her sister helped her parents move. Her parents homestead was located near the homestead of Edward AEd@ Allen. Mildred and Ed became acquainted as neighbors. Ed was born on May 2, 1882, in Solitude, North Carolina. He came to Oregon with his father in 1900 and worked on ranches near Mitchell and Hay Creek. He filed a homestead claim in the Hay Creek vicinity. The relationship between Mildred and Ed blossomed into romance. They were married on April 22, 1916.
Mildred’s father built them a four room house on Ed=s homestead. They lived on the homestead for four years. They eventually had six children They moved to a farm near Redmond where their children attended school. They moved near Prineville in 1939 and farmed along Crooked River. An opportunity arose to operate a ranch on upper Beaver Creek near Paulina and they moved to begin raising sheep and cattle. Mildred managed the domestic affairs and also helped with ranching activities. They operated the ranch for about ten years assisted by their sons LeRoy and Clarence.
Mildred and Ed retired from ranching and moved into Prineville. Ed passed away on March 5, 1967. Mildred lived on for several years and remained at their home in Prineville until an injury led her to live in a nursing home in Madras. She passed away in Madras on June 10, 1986. Both Ed and Mildred are buried in Juniper Haven Cemetery in Prineville.
