The Bowman Museum invites the community to explore the rich history of Crook County with its annual May at the Museum Lecture Series. This year’s theme, “The First of Crook County,” delves into some of the county’s most significant firsts, bringing to life the pioneers and milestones that shaped the region.

This engaging two-part series will highlight key historical figures and events that defined early Prineville and beyond. As a special feature, the series will conclude with a People From Our Past presentation on May 28 at 6:00 PM at the Bowman Museum. This unique event will feature first-person portrayals of:

  • Monroe Hodges – Prineville’s first surveyor
  • Suanna Barnes – The first Euro-American woman settler in Crook County
  • May Barney – Prineville’s first female mayor
  • George Barnes – Prineville’s first lawyer

Sponsored by the Crook County Historical Society and Friends of the Crook County Library, this lecture series is free and open to the public. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about the remarkable individuals who helped shape Crook County’s history!
