Museum News
By Sadee Moss, Collections Specialist
We have exciting news from the Collections Department, we are officially online! This past year we have been working extremely hard to make the transition from switching our database over to being online and finding ways to be all-around accessible. We also have the public version of our database up on our website. As I have mentioned in previous articles this will allow a broader range of our collection to be available. We are very excited to share this with all of you!
You can find the online version of the database on the Research Library page of the website and by following this link. This will allow you to view a selection of items from our collection. The goal of this project is to continue to find ways to be more accessible for everyone. Our main focus will be working on getting more of our research materials online. As we continue to add more material to this, you will be able to do research of our collection from virtually anywhere. This will also provide a safer way to view some of our more fragile materials in the collection. We will be able to scan it and upload it and then anyone can view it at any time without risk of causing damage. This is a great step in forwarding our mission “ …to inspire, entertain, educate and involve our local community, as well as visitors from all over the world…”
The museum will continue to grow and expand in this area in the coming months and years. Check back often when you want to see some of the collection or need to do a little research!
Volunteer Opportunities
Now in other news, we are starting the busy summer months here at the museum and we are wanting to get some volunteers to help up front. Our volunteers are a valuable part of the museum. It is through all their hard work that the museum has been able to grow and thrive into what we have today. We are looking for volunteers to answer phones, run the register for sales, and provide general information about the museum a couple of hours a week.
Training will be provided for all duties, and all are welcome to apply if interested. This is a great way to spend some time and support the museum. If interested, please fill out a volunteer form on our website or reach out to our Collections Assistant, Mekia Ogborn by email. We hope you enjoy the ability to see the collection online and use it often. If you have additional research questions, feel free to reach out to any of our staff for help! Check out the online collection below or on our website.
